Howdy, Farmhands!
The blog bandwagon is about advice for players. But a beautiful woman told me I should be posting shorter blogs so. Uh.
1. Ask what the buy-in for the game is and where the fun is (are we theatre kids-ing this or is this a resource management game?) then choose to take actions within those bounds.
2. Spotlight share with other players when you realize you’ve been talking a lot. Throw their character questions about what your character should do. Helps the quiet ones speak up without the dm calling them out and gives you a chance for neat interactions between your PCs.
3. Interrogate why you find things fun. Like, really sit down and try to hammer out a simple explanation for why something you like makes you happy. Makes it easier to problem solve if something happens in-game that you -don’t- like. Problems in games are rarely the fault of what you assume they are.
4. Ask what a mechanic is intended to do every once in a while. Your dm is most likely a systems sicko, or heaven forbid, fancies themselves a game designer. If you ask them to explain what a bell curve is, you’ll make their week. It’ll also give you more knowledge about the game and why it does what it does, which will help you with advice #1.
5. If I write a fifth one of these I think I’ll no longer be able to call it a short blog so that’s it, everyone go home.
Until Next Time,
Farmer Gadda
